Internet TV Jumps in the Battle for Television Supremacy

By: Jackson Willis
Looking back when cable and satellite television were the only two options a consumer had the choice of for their television entertainment, new strategies were constantly being used to aquire new subscribers. From reduced prices, to bonus features, to promotional packages, the cable and satellite providers have always been at war with one another to try and get the highest market share. Unfortunately for them, a new competitor has jumped into the industry of television entertainment.
Before anyone knew it, the Internet made a commanding presence in the television industry. While it started with online videos, the Internet (with the help of some innovators) has really changed into something new. With the help of groups like Satellite TV For PC, the exact same channels/stations you can get in traditional cable and satellite packages cost only a fraction of the price. The term fraction of a price doesnt mean reduced monthly costs either; it means eliminating the monthly fees for good. Through utilizing the technologies that are on the Internet, innovators such as those at Satellite TV For PC now give you the option of buying packages (having 3,000+ television and radio stations) for a one-time fee. These channels arent just a bunch of no-name UHF stations either; they consist of national and global television networks.
The one drawback to this option is it has not adapted the most recent technology that cable and satellite providers currently have: HDTV. Currently known as the highest quality of television available, cable and satellite services have this advantage in the television industry. Unfortunately, a lot of people have been quite shocked about the prerequisites of HDTV in a negative manner.
It appears that a majority of people think that all they need to do to get HDTV is to buy an HDTV-compatible television . This is only a part of it though. Additionally, consumers will need to upgrade to HDTV-compliant cable or satellite packages and possibly buy additional parts and cables. On top of that, people come to the harsh realization that even with the HDTV-upgraded package, not all of their channels are capable of high definition. Having said that, this usually comes as an unpleasant surprise to many people.
So what avenue should the consumer choose for their television entertainment? It really comes down to the preferences of the consumer. If they want to get the large quantity of stations for the one-time fee, they will probably want to grab the Satellite TV For PC-type solutions. Then again, if they want the highest quality of television available and are willing to pay the additional fees incurred, they will probably want to go with their traditional cable or satellite provider. One thing that is for certain though: Internet TV is evolving the way people can acquire and watch television.
